Enabling communities in Adur and Worthing to improve their health and wellbeing
The Growing Communities project is community-led
Project Outcomes
Supporting and encouraging local residents in disadvantaged areas to involve themselves and ultimately lead projects such as planting trees, Green Gyms, community orchards, sporting and community activities, recreation activities or food growing programmes utilising under-used or redundant patches of land.
The initial priority areas for the project are Eastbrook in the Adur District and Northbrook in Worthing Borough.
Health
People learn to make lasting changes to improve their health and reduce illness
Confidence
People’s confidence and self-esteem increases as a result of their efforts
Pride
People are proud of their community and the place they live in
Green Spaces
Better quality green spaces better used by a greater diversity of people
Growing Communities partnership
The Growing Communities Project is a partnership between The Conservation Volunteers and Adur & Worthing Councils.
We have been given a Big Lottery Fund grant of £660,000 to run the project over an initial three years. The project will initially focus on two priority areas in Adur & Worthing:
